Composition
Here
are some guides, which will help to compose your scenes.
Firstly
is one, which I will call the Golden Cross.
Think
of your paper divided into 9 portions.
3
rows and 3 columns
A
B

D
Never
put anything prominent in the middle of the paper, use A or B
C
and D are used for your horizon lines. If the horizon is placed on D the result
will be a large expanse of sky. The lines of A and B could be used for placing
trees or any tall object in the foreground.
When placing anything on A or B lines always have one bigger than the other.
This creates which I call the big L and the little l.
If
you have a gate in the foreground it is best to have it in the open position,
otherwise it will tend to prevent the viewer entering further into you painting.
Another
aid is to lead the viewer’s eye through the picture by using a “Z”,
or either reversed.
Compose and paint a landscape using the above instructions.
